Counselling and Clinical Dietitian

We ask every featured student a set of in-depth questions about their clinical experience, their path to neuronutrition, and what the program has meant for their work. Our goal is to give others an honest, unfiltered look at what practicing in this space actually looks like, and showcase the impact that our students are having in their communities.

Rachel Anne Hobbs is a UK-based Clinical and Counselling Dietitian and Personal Trainer with an integrative approach to care. She holds a BSc in Dietetics and Nutrition from the University of Surrey and a Postgraduate Diploma in Sports Nutrition through the International Olympic Committee. She is further trained as a counsellor and hypnotherapist, and comes from an elite performance background as an Ironman triathlete and British record-holding powerlifter. She has received a Life Achievement Award for her charity work in Ghana and was named one of the top 10 personal trainers in the world by Technogym. Having spent much of her career in the eating disorder and body image space, Rachel now focuses on maternal nourishment — supporting mothers to be well fed and experience motherhood through a less depleted lens. You can follow her work on Instagram and visit her practice at dietitianrachel.com.

What motivated you to join the NANCP program?

I had been looking for further learning that deepened my understanding of eating behaviours, nutrition, the brain and nervous system for some time. Having already studied CPD in medical neuroscience, developmental neurobiology and the neurobiology of eating disorders, I felt drawn to something that brought these areas together in a more integrated and compassionate way.

I had followed Timothy's work for a while and was always in awe of his ability to combine evidence-based science with such a compassionate, human lens. When he created the NANCP, it felt like a natural next step for me.

What experiences led you to develop an interest in neuronutrition?

My interest in neuronutrition grew from both my clinical work and my own lived experience. Working closely with individuals navigating eating disorders, body image concerns and chronic undernourishment, I began to see how deeply eating behaviours are intertwined with the brain and nervous system — and vice versa.

Alongside this, my own experience of recovery and motherhood brought a deeper understanding of how nourishment impacts our mood, regulation and capacity — and how our mood, regulation and capacity impacts our nourishment.

How would you describe your experience in the NANCP program so far?

Being part of the first cohort has been a really meaningful experience. It has been so exciting to witness the growth of the NANCP and to see more practitioners beginning to take this integrative, compassionate lens into their work. The programme has strengthened and expanded my thinking, while also affirming the direction I was moving in.

I feel genuinely hopeful that this way of working will continue to grow, supporting not only practitioners but also the next generation to have a deeper, more nuanced understanding of nutrition.

How will neuronutrition impact your clients and practice?

The first word that comes to mind is that neuronutrition allows nutrition practice to be more "humane." It supports clients not just to eat differently, but to feel differently — and experience greater connection to themselves and their lives.
